CyberSEXproject, a survey about online chat and hooking up.
Who is conducting the survey?
The survey is being conducted by the National Centre in HIV Social Research at UNSW Australia in collaboration with ACON, AFAO and Positive Life NSW.
Who can participate in the survey?
You are invited to take part in the survey if you are a man aged 16 years and above and are living in New South Wales, Australia.
What is the survey about?
We want to understand how the Internet shapes the sexuality of gay and bisexual men and how chatting and fantasising online impacts on sexual and risk behaviours in real life. Your responses are important whatever your level of experience with online chat.
How will the survey results be used?
The survey results will inform the development of health education campaigns for gay and bisexual men who met sex partners online. The project has been developed in partnership so as to directly inform the activities of ACON, AFAO and Positive Life NSW.
How long will it take?
The initial questionnaire will take 15 to 20 minutes to complete. The short follow-up questionnaire that will be sent three months after completion of the initial survey will take 7 to 10 minutes to complete.
How will my privacy be protected?
The survey protocol has been approved by Ethics committees at UNSW and ACON. A highly secure survey system will protect your privacy. All your data and answers will be kept confidential by the survey system. Nobody will ever know that you participated in the survey.
Will I be paid for doing the survey?
There will be no payment provided to participants of this study but you may win up to $800 in vouchers.
How can I win the prize?
To be eligible to be entered into the draw to win the prize you must fully complete at least the initial questionnaire that is accessible from this website. Completing each of the questionnaires will give you the chance to win a $400 voucher. This means that you can win a $400 voucher if you complete the initial questionnaire and up to $800 in vouchers if you complete both the initial questionnaire and the short follow- up survey in three months from now.
How can I end my participation in the study?
You have the possibility to end your participation in the study at any time. To withdraw, simply send an email to the survey's Chief investigator at firstname.lastname@example.org with the word 'STOP CYBERSEX SURVEY' in the subject heading. A drop out option is also included in all the emails that will be sent to you.
